Fractional Resurfacing

This is our strongest resurfacing treatment in the salon. Elevate your results and achieve superior outcomes with fractional laser. Fractional laser is 5 times stronger than Dermapen and other resurfacing counterparts. It safely delivers heat via Radio-frequency technology, creating tiny micro-dermal wounds which the body then releases growth factors to naturally initiate a wound healing response. Since the wounds are so small, it's much more comfortable than traditional CO2 lasers while still producing incredibly visible results.

Q & A

What does fractional resurfacing treat?

Visible improvements can be seen with the following skin conditions: Aging, Fine Lines and wrinkles, General rejuvenation, Open Pores, Redness, Rosacea, Pigmentation, Uneven skin tone, Textural issues, Scarring.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

Fractional resurfacing is one of our most popular treatments. Results are often seen after just one treatment; however, we recommend 3-4 treatments for maximum benefit.

How far apart should the treatments be?

We recommend 4 weeks apart for most clients; however, on the rare occasion, we may suggest up to 6 weeks apart.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

On the day of your treatment, it is preferable that your skin is clean. Do not apply any creams, lotions, or tanning before your treatment. If you have excessive hair on the treatment area, we advise you either shave or remove it prior to your treatment. We highly recommend having a well-rounded skincare routine in place 4 weeks prior to your treatment. The incorporation of a paramedical skincare routine helps imitate superior results and also lessens the downtime.

What's the difference between level 1, level 2, and level 3 fractional treatments?

Level 1 is Fractional only. Level 2 involves Fractional and IPL. Level 3 involves Fractional, IPL, and RF skin tightening. As we go up in levels, greater results can be achieved with anti-aging benefits and skin tone improvements. If you aren’t sure what's best for you, book for a skin consultation, and we can help give you advice as to what will help achieve your skin goals.

I have darker skin, can I still do the fractional treatment?

Fractional is extremely safe for all skin tones, even darker ones.

What to expect over the next few days after the treatment?

Over the next 1-3 days, you will experience some redness, blood spots, raised bumps, heat, grazing, breakouts, and possibly minor swelling. Swelling is very rare but can occur. This is all normal. Day 3 - 6 you will experience dryness, scabbing, crusting, flakiness, and a roughened texture and some possible delayed swelling as well. Again, all normal and part of the process. The skin takes 7 days to heal in most cases. Most clients feel these temporary side effects are very manageable and no downtime from usual activities is needed.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment takes 15-30 minutes.

Is it painful?

Fractional resurfacing can be slightly uncomfortable but not painful. Upon completion of your treatment, you’ll feel intense heat (similar to a sunburn) but this goes away after 2-4 hours. There is the option of applying a topical numbing cream prior to your treatment. Numb It or Emla cream can be applied at home 30 minutes before your treatment. Most clients don’t choose to apply numbing cream but it is an option if you wish to follow it. This can be discussed with your therapist beforehand if you are sensitive to heat.

What does the treatment feel like?

You will feel tiny pins on your skin followed by a very mild zap. Your face will then feel warm similar to a sunburn for 2-4 hours. Most clients deem this treatment comfortable and even more tolerable than a dermapen or skin needling session.

How long do results last for and is the result permanent?

After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch-up session may be needed approximately every 3 - 6 months, depending on how your skin responds. After the treatment, results will continue to improve for up to 3 months. After that, the face and body continue to age, so maintenance treatments are recommended once a month or every 3-6 months depending on your condition and age.

Can I get Fractional if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

No, unfortunately, you can't experience this treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

How will I feel and look straight after the treatment?

Your skin can look red and feel warm afterward (exactly like a mild sunburn). Follow the post-care instructions provided by your treatment provider and the skin will heal in no time at all. Normally within 24 hours the redness subsides considerably and the sunburn feeling subsides within 2-4 hours post-treatment.

What do I need to do post fractional?

For the first 48 hours after your treatment, straight after your fractional treatment you will be recommended either DMK Beta gel or O Cosmedics Medi Soothe. It's important this is applied to the skin AM and PM for the first 7 days minimum after you have cleansed your skin. This will aid in the healing process and help regenerate new skin. After 24 hours you should apply SPF 30 or 50 AM and PM during the treatment course and we also recommend using SPF every day to nurture and lengthen the results of your treatment. Avoid using any active skincare such as retinol/Vitamin A, B3, AHAs, and BHAs. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area post fractional. Dermalux LED treatments can be utilized at any time to help manage redness or irritation and accelerate recovery. In the first 24 hours you should also avoid exercise, saunas, hot baths and shower, swimming and massage, makeup and tanning on the treatment area. From day 5 after your treatment, this is the day you can introduce a light exfoliation to start to lift the dead skin and dryness that is associated with fractional. Day 5 is also the day you can start to bring in your more active products such as retinol/Vitamin A, B3, AHAs, BHAs, and any other active products. DAY 7, this is the day we recommend giving your skin a 2nd exfoliation at home or coming in for an exfoliation treatment in the clinic.

How is fractional different from dermapen?

In summary, both treatments offer benefits in improving the skin. Dermapen is less invasive and provides a more subtle result, whereas fractional resurfacing is 5 times stronger and can provide more exceptional changes to the skin. The choice of which is best for you comes down to the level of results you want and the skin condition you have. It's important to note that 1 fractional is equivalent to the results of 5 dermapen so ultimately fractional resurfacing can provide greater visual changes.
