Q & A

What is Dermalux LED?
Dermalux is a non-invasive treatment that uses the most clinically proven wavelengths to energize cells and trigger the skin's natural rejuvenating and healing processes to treat a wide range of conditions.

What can LED treat?

  • General skin rejuvenation
  • Rosacea
  • Redness
  • Sensitivity
  • Dehydration
  • Acne
  • Anti-aging
  • Peri-Oral Dermatitis
  • Psoriasis
  • Pigmentation
  • Wound healing

Are there any side effects?
There is no risk of irritation, side effects, or downtime that may be associated with more invasive procedures. There have been no reported side effects in over 3,000 published clinical studies. However, it is important to be aware that photosensitive medications or health conditions may be contraindicated to the LED treatment due to increased sensitivity to light exposure. Please refer to the User or Protocol manual supplied with your device.

Is the treatment safe?
Yes. Dermalux has one of the highest safety profiles of any skincare treatment. It does not generate heat or UV wavelengths, so it cannot damage skin tissue or create photosensitivity. It is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types and the most sensitive skin conditions.

Why can't I see the infrared light?
Light is a powerful energy made up of wavelengths ranging from very short gamma rays to very long radio waves. The human eye has evolved to detect wavelengths between 400nm and 700nm as color. We see this as the rainbow ranging from blue through to red light. We do not see UV wavelengths which range up to 390nm, and at the other end of the electromagnetic spectrum, we do not detect Near Infrared wavelengths at around 800nm plus. NIR is a very powerful wavelength even though we cannot see it.

Is Near Infrared Light beneficial on its own?
Absolutely. As we don’t see NIR light, it is easy to underestimate the amazing therapeutic benefits. NIR is the wound healing wavelength. It accelerates repair and has powerful calming and soothing benefits for inflammatory and problem skin conditions. It is also proven for pain relief.

Is there an age limit for the Dermalux treatment?
No. Dermalux is safe for all ages; however, treatment of clients under the age of 18 will be at the discretion of the clinic and may require parental consent.

How many treatments do I need?
Depending on the severity of the skin condition, we recommend anywhere from 3-10 treatments in most situations. We have the strongest LED machine in the world so fewer treatments are required than other Dermalux devices and also other LED devices.

Is there any downtime?
No, there is no downtime with this treatment.

What can I expect after the treatment?
The skin can feel slightly warm and plump after the treatment, like you have done a 30-minute exercise session, but most people feel completely normal post-treatment.

Does it hurt?
There is no pain or discomfort with Dermalux LED treatments.

Is it safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Unfortunately no. Even though Dermalux treatment is very safe, the devices have not been tested on pregnant women and therefore the risk is unknown.

Can Dermalux LED Stimulate a tan or Pigmentation?
No. Dermalux does not use any wavelengths in the UV spectrum. Our LED’s have a very narrow nanometer tolerance to ensure they only emit the required peak wavelength. If you are doing more than 5 Intense Blue Light treatments (Generally acne or rosacea treatments only), you may notice a temporary darkening of your freckles. If this is a concern, this will fade back to its normal color within a 4-8 week period. This can also be prevented by using tyrosine inhibitors prior and during your treatment.
